Recent Art Projects

Kindergarten- For the past few weeks we've been painting self-portraits with tempera paint. Some students worked from memory, and some used mirrors. These 12X18 portraits will be on display in the hallway outside the kindergarten classrooms, and they are adorable!

1st Grade- These kid's sure know their four seasons! After a lesson on drawing trees, students drew four trees with bare branches. They then, painted on each tree to have them look like a tree from a certain season. These 4-season tree pictures are on display in the school now.

2nd Grade- Currently, the second graders are finishing a project using chalk pastels. The subject is clowns, and after looking at lots of examples, they drew and colored their clowns. I plan to spray the finished pictures so they won't smear, and put them on display. Maybe they will brighten up our cloudy winter days with all their color and imagination!

3rd Grade- Our art classes have been coordinating with Mrs. Heide for our latest art project.

Working with the social studies unit, the students created a Diorama of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This involved creating the scene in 3-D inside a shoebox. They are now on display in the school library.

4th Grade- After learning about a new artist, Georges Roualt, students created a 12X18 painting in the style of Roualt, using tempera and watercolour paint.

5th Grade- When the winter weather has allowed us to have art class(!), the fifth grade have been learning about radial design by creating kaleidoscope designs with construction paper.

They are beautiful, and now grace the halls of our elem bldg to brighten our days.

6th Grade-Our recent study has been in the area of perspective drawing. Students had three classes to learn the basics of using vanishing points, and making boxes in 3-D. They were required to show some boxes overlapping and some boxes intersecting. They caught on quick and are ready for more challenges.
